Breathe Easy, You've Found Me ((HUGS))

People will wonder why this blog is needed, why minority midwifery student? It's very simple actually; I was looking for this blog...but I couldn't find it...so I created it. We all have unique experiences, and every experience, every story, can help someone else. I am a black girl from the hood at an ivy league professional school. That, alone, is reason enough to write. Somebody was looking for this blog. Someone wanted proof that what I'm doing can be done - even when you come from where we come from.

To that person especially, WELCOME.

Are the two of you cooking together or is she making all your favourite stuff? My mama came to kkkanada for her second trip in all the years I'd been here when I had Stinkapee. She made me some old favourites from my childhood. It made me so happy for a time...then I wanted her to go home. :)

Heeeey I just left something over at your place!

My mama hates cooking, so there was no teamwork, lol! I learned to cook from my paternal grandmother, mostly, and all my favorite foods come from her kitchen...with the exception of maybe tacos! I pretty much served her the whole time because I really wanted her to experience "doing nothing" because she never ever does. I had to ask her to not wash our dishes (in the wee hours of the morning before I woke up!), to resist the urge to pick up here and there...she had a hard time, lol.

I took her to the airport this morning, it was a short visit...not quite long enough for me to want her to go home, but I guess that's better! ;o) But she couldn't wait to get home to my dad and my brother...although I don't think they were quite ready for her!

Hi, it's me, darkdaughta.
I'm emailing from Papi's account cuz his is open and I don't want to close his account and mess up whatever he's in the middle of doing.

I'm glad your visit with your mama went well. I do seem to remember you saying you wanted her to come visit and rest. Forgot for a sec. Papi's happy you came by and commented. He and I talk quite a bit about the "sleeping sickness". His father does it, too. Truth is, I don't think it's specifically men because I've met quite a few trauma survivors who are wimmin who do the exact same thing. They understood it as a form of quick and easy, reliable escape from whatever was upsetting them that they learned when they were kids. But enough from me. He's cleaning right now cuz one of my friends is coming to visit. He's got the dress I want to wear in the dryer on gentle fluff or something like that. He read your post - A Day in the Life Of Humans. He'll be checking in for sure.

Have you been to visit the freeslave.blogspot.com? He's an interesting character, too. Another black man, also political. I've been meaning to invite him over to come take part in the conversation.

Anyhoo, I should go get ready. Back later. Hugs. darkdaughta
