Breathe Easy, You've Found Me ((HUGS))
People will wonder why this blog is needed, why minority midwifery student? It's very simple actually; I was looking for this blog...but I couldn't find it...so I created it. We all have unique experiences, and every experience, every story, can help someone else. I am a black girl from the hood at an ivy league professional school. That, alone, is reason enough to write. Somebody was looking for this blog. Someone wanted proof that what I'm doing can be done - even when you come from where we come from.
To that person especially, WELCOME.
As an effort to ease into the new semester which includes intrapartum and antepartum classes with clinicals, I shadowed a midwife on L&D today. I wanted to reaquaint myself with the monitors, get the lay of the floor again, and mingle with the nurses. It was great day of rounding, triage, and birth.
I saw a human come into the world today. A girl child, through a 17year old woman who was so full of power.
Amazing.

Yay for midwives & labor and delivery. I'm nervous about how we're going to get started once school starts back up. I wonder if they're just going to throw us into everything. Hm...only 8 days of vacation left. By the way, I love seeing babies born. Makes me so happy.

I attended my first birth ever and as a doula on new year's eve into new year's day and it was amazing.
I just wanted to let you know how much of an inspiration you are to me. I'm in my 2nd semester of nursing school and I just started a position as a Student Nurse working in labor and delivery. I cannot explain how much joy I felt today, especially because I met my 1st African American midwife! It's amazing to feel excited about going to work and school, knowing that I'm one step closer to becoming a CNM. I have a long way to go before I get to where you are, but this blog just reinforces my drive to pursue my dreams! Thank you!
